Goodbye Bradford Assays Workshop

Speaker: Mark Kraschnfeski

HIGHLIGHTS:

·                Explanation of current protein quantitation techniques, including: Colorimetric Assays, UV/Vis - 280, and Amino Acid Analysis

·                Exploration of limitations and potential pitfalls of current protein quantitation techniques

·                FTIR-Based protein quantitation for more accurate and reliable data

DIRECT DETECT OVERVIEW: A review of current techniques used to quantitate proteins including an explanation of the principles and considerations for their use along with the limitations and potential pitfalls of these techniques will be provided.  This demo then introduces FTIR technology for protein quantitation and addresses how to use FTIR to overcome the limitations of current techniques.  Examples of protein sample scenarios and how the limitations of current techniques can affect the results will be outlined along with comparison data showing more accurate and reliable determination of protein concentration using FTIR. Direct Detect™ is the first infra-red (IR)-based biomolecular quantitation system.  Just spot your sample, blank, and read!  No sample prep, standard curves, messy cuvettes or liquid waste.  With inherent amide bond detection, the Direct Detect™ system distinguishes proteins and peptides from interfering sample components, providing more accurate results without the pitfalls of colorimetric assays.
